Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The text says the firstborn animals are holy and cannot be redeemed; their blood is sprinkled on the altar and their fat burned as an offering, with the flesh belonging to the priests. It also states that the holy offerings belong to the priests forever, a covenant of salt before the LORD.
Neville's Inner Vision
Observe that the 'firstling' is not a mere animal, but the first state of consciousness that arises in you when you face a new situation. In this text the firstborn is declared holy and not redeemable—a sign that the initial impulse, when rightly recognized, is to be kept from compromise by doubt or fear. The altar stands for your present awareness—the I AM behind all seeing. Sprinkling its blood upon the altar is the cleansing act by which you wash the mind of limitation, stamping the impression that this impulse belongs to God and is to be used for higher ends. The fat burned as a sweet savour shows that the vivid energy of this impulse is to be purified by intention and released as praise to the Divine. The flesh belonging to the priesthood indicates your life-force, your vitality, reserved for sacred service. The covenant of salt expresses an enduring loyalty to this inner order; you and your seed maintain the discipline of consecration, so imagination becomes your reality. When you hold to this inward offering, your outer world follows the same divine order.
Practice This Now
Assume the first thought that arises is holy; revise any doubt by declaring, 'I am the I AM, consecrated to God.' Then feel it-real by resting in the stillness and letting that sacred impulse flow into your body.
