Biblical Context
God endured with them for many years, warned by prophets, yet they would not listen. Nevertheless, He spared them for the sake of His great mercy, for He is gracious and merciful.
Neville's Inner Vision
See, the chapter reveals your inner drama of consciousness. The 'many years forbearance' is the steady, patient hold of your I AM toward a stubborn habit; the 'spirit in thy prophets' is that inner voice that speaks truth to your present state. When you refuse to listen, your outer life seems given into the 'hand of the lands'—the familiar conditions that keep you asleep to who you really are. Yet such scenes do not negate who you are; the mercy that stays your destruction is the essence of God within you. God is not outside you crying out for reform; He is the gracious nature of awareness itself, the I AM, forever forgiving and gentle. The moment you realize you are not separate from that mercy, you cease to fear punishment and you begin to revise. The long-suffering of God becomes your invitation to awaken rather than your verdict of failure. In truth, you are preserved by grace; your true self cannot be consumed. Practice in the present: assume the state of your own mercy, feel the I AM as your permanent address, and let that perception reform every thought and circumstance.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and revise your current state by stepping into the I AM. Silently declare: 'I am gracious and merciful God within me,' and feel the mercy extending to every part of my life.
