Inner Covenant Nehemiah 13:23-29

Nehemiah 13:23-29 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Nehemiah 13 in context

Scripture Focus

23In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
24And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
25And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.
26Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
27Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
28And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
29Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

Biblical Context

Nehemiah 13:23-29 depicts boundary-setting to preserve covenant loyalty and holiness by safeguarding priesthood from foreign influences. It highlights the danger of mixed loyalties and the call to maintain a singular devotion.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within my consciousness I see the pull of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab as thoughts that would dilute the language of my true self. Nehemiah’s act is not punishment but a delineation within: a clear inner boundary that protects the temple of spirit from foreign loyalties. I realize the true king is the I AM within me; outward appearances may sway, but inner sovereignty remains when I refuse to entertain thoughts that would dilute my covenant. The line about Solomon’s wives becomes a mirror: even the beloved of God can be beguiled by surface shows, yet the inner king must be kept pure by steadfast attention to the divine order. So I refuse to grant audience to voices that say I am not sufficient, and I reaffirm the covenant by speaking only the language of the I AM. My inner priesthood stays undefiled as I turn away counterfeit influences and remember the God within me.

Practice This Now

Assume the state: I AM, loyally aligned with my inner covenant. Feel it real now by revising any thought that would dilute the temple of my mind, and let the true language of the I AM prevail.
