I AM Casts Out: Inner Deliverance
Matthew 8:28-31 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Matthew 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Two possessed men in the country of the Gergesenes confront Jesus, and the demons beg to enter the swine.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the inner field of your life, the two possessed are patterns of thought—fear and resistance—rising from the tombs of past memory. The shore is your turning point of awareness; the I AM, your central consciousness, arrives and the fierce voices cry, 'What have we to do with thee?' This is the ego clinging to its dominion, not a battle against a person. The herd of swine represents outward forms—appearances and projects—that fear their source of life is being dissolved. The demons’ request to enter the swine reveals a mind that would externalize its problems rather than relinquish its hold on false identity. The Master’s permission, and the swine’s plunge into the sea, symbolize the release of those identifications from your inner climate, allowing a higher state of awareness to reorganize your life. When you know you are the I AM, you cast out the old self and your outer world becomes a fresh witness to your awakened consciousness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and assume the I AM as your present-tense awareness. Revise the interior scene by allowing the old beliefs to depart and dissolve into the sea of your knowing, and feel the release.
