Biblical Context
Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law and then many who were ill or possessed, showing compassion in the home. It is presented as the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy that He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice that the scene in Peter's house stands for your own mind. The fever of the mother-in-law is a fever of limitation, an habitual thought that health is apart from you. When Jesus touched her hand and the fever left, that act is the allegory of a change in your own awareness. Jesus is the I AM within—your attention that declares what is real. The healing of fever and the casting out of devils are not distant miracles, but movements of inner alignment: you choose a single state of health, and the body follows in harmony with that state. The Isaiah line—Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses—speaks to your willingness to identify with the divine Self rather than with sickness. Mercy and compassion stream through as you stop resisting wholeness and let your awareness rest in the constant presence of health. In this light, the events become an inner proof: you are already healed; you are already the healer; healing manifests in your life as you assume it.
Practice This Now
Practice: close your eyes, assume the feeling of health as if it is present now, and revise the sensation in your body by mentally touching the area and affirming, 'I am health now.' Stay with that feeling for several minutes and watch as it realigns your inner state.
