The I AM Within

Matthew 7:22-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 7 in context

Scripture Focus

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:22-23

Biblical Context

The verse warns that outward spiritual claims and powerful works do not guarantee God's recognition; true knowing comes from an inner relationship with the I AM, not from appearances.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider that 'Lord, Lord' are not terms to impress God, but states of consciousness you wear when you pretend to be separate from your own I AM. Those who run in the name of the Lord and cast out devils signify a mind that has learned religious tricks, yet remains ignorant of the inner relation. The Master does not know them because they do not know themselves as the I AM; they act from egoic images, not from the living Presence. The day of reckoning comes not as doom but as realization: you either identify with your separative self or with the ALL-PRESENCE that you truly are. The remedy is to assume the state of the I AM now; imagine that the Father is within, that all you do flows from that union, and you will find that your words and works align with inner truth. When you revise your sense of self to 'I am the One who knows,' your external deeds take on the effortless power of genuine conversion.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and anchor in I AM within. Revise a recent outward 'success' by affirming that it arises only from your inner union with God, and feel it real.
