The Strait Gate Within

Matthew 7:13-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 7 in context

Scripture Focus

13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:13-23

Biblical Context

Jesus presents two paths: the broad way that leads to destruction and the narrow way that leads to life, warning against false prophets and urging obedience that bears fruit.

Neville's Inner Vision

Christ here is not far away but within. The gate you enter is the state you assume about yourself. The wide road is your current habitual sense of lack, limitation, worry—many souls go there because imagination dwells on fear rather than life. The strait gate and narrow way are the disciplined states of consciousness that confer life: unwavering faith in your I AM, constant inner revision, and steadfast living from the imagined end. False prophets are thoughts masquerading as authority—voices that condemn or praise by outward show; you’ll recognize them by fruits, i.e., the outcomes your life yields from the belief you entertain. A good tree is a healthy state; a corrupted tree is a fear-based story you repeat. Not everyone who calls me Lord Lord enters the Kingdom, but only the one who does the will of the Father within—doing the inner work to align feeling, imagination, and deed with the end you seek. The kingdom comes as you inwardly consent to be as you wish to be.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume the life you desire as already real; feel the reality, see the details, and repeat, 'I AM that I desire to be' until it settles as your lived state.
