Perfect Love for Enemies

Matthew 5:43-48 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 5 in context

Scripture Focus

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Matthew 5:43-48

Biblical Context

The passage commands you to love your enemies as you do your neighbors, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who persecute you. It points to a higher state of consciousness in which the sun and rain fall on both good and evil, inviting your inner life to expand.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your enemy is not separate from you but a rejected aspect of your own consciousness seeking integration. When you bless someone who curses you, you are not pleasing them; you are re-creating your inner weather so that love becomes the ruling state of your I AM. The sun you see and the rain you experience are metaphors for the inner faculties of sight and refreshing energy within your mind, and by extending love to the most difficult, you unlock a state that works for all—from the so-called just to the unjust. Perception shifts precede change: as you refuse to retaliate, you identify with the Father in heaven who shines on every heart. The command to be perfect is the invitation to rise in consciousness, to see separation dissolve, and to stand as the one life that includes all. Therefore, practice is simple: assume the feeling of the state you desire—peace, forgiveness, and expansive love—and let your imagination do the rest, for imagination creates reality.

Practice This Now

Practice: in a quiet moment, imagine a person you call an enemy; bless them in your mind, and feel your I AM expanding with forgiving love until old hostility dissolves.
