Turn the Other Cheek

Matthew 5:39 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 5 in context

Scripture Focus

39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Matthew 5:39

Biblical Context

Matthew 5:39 teaches not to resist evil. When struck, turn the other cheek.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, resist not evil means resist not the habit of meeting thought with thought. The 'smiting' you fear is the moment your assumption feels threatened. Your true nature is the I AM, the ever-present awareness that notices both the strike and your response. When you turn the right cheek, you are not yielding to the other; you are yielding to your own higher state. The world does not threaten you; it reflects your inner state back to you. Thus, to turn the cheek is to revise the scene in your imagination, to hold in your mind a nonresistive, merciful outcome, and to feel it real until it becomes your perception. Practice by assuming the feeling of being unhurt, unshaken, and merciful toward the one who strikes. You are not condemning him; you are affirming that your instant reality is the blessed I AM, which forgives and manifests grace. In that moment, the external 'evil' loses force, and harmony flows through you.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: In the next moment, close your eyes and imagine the exact scene of being struck, but feel the I AM unshaken, turning inward to mercy until the other cheek seems real. Then revise the moment again aloud, declaring, 'I resist not evil; my state is peace,' until that feeling resides in the body.
