Inner Covenant Of Unity

Matthew 5:32 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 5 in context

Scripture Focus

32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Matthew 5:32

Biblical Context

The passage states that divorce, except for fornication, causes the former spouse to be marked as adulterous, and marrying a divorced person is also adulterous.

Neville's Inner Vision

Viewed through the I AM, this teaching is less a threat and more a summons to inner loyalty. The word 'divorce' and the charge of 'adultery' reveal a pattern of consciousness, not merely an outward act. When you separate in thought from your partner, you are really divorcing from your own awareness; you fragment the one life you share and invite a sense of guilt and lack into your days. 'Fornication' in this sense is any inner fragmentation—believing you are two selves in a single world. The so-called commandments arise to remind you that only the state of unity is real; the outer law reflects your inner alignment. Therefore, revise the assumption: the I AM is the true husband of every soul, and you are always complete in the divine, regardless of circumstance. By imagining yourself as one with your beloved, or by clarifying your interior covenant, you remove the fear of loss and the impulse to seek wholeness apart from the One. Your reality will bend to the conviction that you are forever in covenant with life itself.

Practice This Now

Assume the state of oneness with your partner in the I AM now. Revise any memory of separation by silently affirming, 'We are one Life in God.'
