Breathing Into Inner Righteousness

Matthew 5:20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 5 in context

Scripture Focus

20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:20

Biblical Context

External righteousness won't suffice; true entry comes through inner alignment with God.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this inner reading, the kingdom is a state of consciousness, not a distant place. The scribes and Pharisees represent outward righteousness—bits of rule-keeping and a self-image crowded with appearances. Your true entrance requires an inner transformation: the I AM within you, your real I, awakening to its own reality. Exceeding their righteousness means lifting your inner standard until your thoughts, feelings, and desires correspond to divine truth. The I AM is your constant presence; it sees you as beloved, capable of obedience and holiness from the inside out. When you assume you are already that righteousness, you invite grace to move within you—conviction, compassion, steadiness, reverence. External rules fade as your inner life bears witness to the truth you affirm, and you walk into the Kingdom within.

Practice This Now

Assume the inner state now: 'I am the righteousness of God within me'; feel it as a warmth, a certainty that shifts your next thought. Then revise any self-image of lack by repeating the affirmation until it feels real.
