Biblical Context
Jesus is guided by the Spirit into a symbolic wilderness of testing. The forty-day fast represents disciplined focus in the mind before manifesting power.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the wilderness as your own mind, kept quiet until your true I AM speaks. The Spirit that leads Jesus is the breath of your awareness guiding you into a season where appearances tempt you to identify with the old self. The devil is not a person but the whispered voice of lack and fear that would tell you you are not enough. The forty days and forty nights of fasting symbolize a voluntary thinning of outward attention, a deliberate restraint of the senses so that your inner vision can take precedence. Hunger arises as a sign that you have begun to live from a new state, not as a punishment but as confirmation you are choosing consciousness over control. In this crucible, you discover that changes in your outer world follow the embodiment of an inner state. The moment you refuse the suggestion of separation and dwell in the I AM, you dissolve the illusion of the adversary and your awareness expands into the possibility that what you seek is already yours.
Practice This Now
Assume the state you desire as already present: 'I am full, content, and supplied.' Then hold that feeling until it feels real, revising any doubt back to that state whenever it arises.
