Biblical Context
In Matthew 27:27-31, soldiers strip Jesus, dress him in a scarlet robe, crown him with thorns, and mock him as 'King of the Jews.' These external acts reflect the inner drama of recognizing true kingship in consciousness.
Neville's Inner Vision
Behold the scene as a symbol of your inner state. The soldiers are your passing thoughts and social opinions, gathering in your hall to test your kingship. The scarlet robe is a worn identity you drape over yourself to gain power, the crown of thorns a cluster of painful beliefs you accept as necessity. The reed is the instrument of control you think you hold. They bow and mock, but their bowing is merely your mind recognizing that you have not yet owned the I AM. The true King is the I AM, the unwavering awareness in whom all events occur. When you feel the scorn, revise by addressing your seated king: declare quietly, 'I AM THAT I AM,' and feel the reality of your inner sovereignty dissolving the need for robes and crowns. Let the robe be removed, the thorn crown dropped, and see the crowd dissipate as you return to the simple fact: you are consciousness, not circumstance. In this shift, the external scene serves as a teacher, showing you that you are the king whose reign is self-chosen in awareness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In a moment of quiet, close your eyes and feel the I AM rise as the king of your inner hall; picture the robe and crown being removed, and recognize you remain as unchanging awareness.
