Biblical Context
Jesus tells the twelve that one among them will betray him; the disciples respond with sorrow and ask, 'Is it I?'. The scene points to inner states rather than external events.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture Matthew 26:20-23 as a scene within your own mind. The twelve represent the faculties of your consciousness gathered at the table of awareness. When Jesus declares that one of you will betray him, he is naming a moment when a counterfeit sense of self—fear, pride, doubt—would dip its hand in the dish of your certainty and turn away from the truth of your divine nature. The disciples’ sorrow and their question, 'Lord, is it I?' mark the soul’s honest dialogue with itself about fidelity to the I AM. The betrayer is not a distant traitor in history but a habit of consciousness that would separate you from God’s presence. Yet the invitation stands: you can revise this scene by assuming the reality of your unity with the I AM here and now. Do not seek to reform the world; awaken the inner state that makes the world true. In the moment you feel the I AM as your own identity, the imagined betrayal dissolves, for you experience that you never left the Father, you merely woke to your true identity.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit with the verse, close your eyes, and assume the state I AM one with God; there is no betrayal in me. Feel it as present reality for 2–3 minutes, then carry that feeling into the next decision.
