Matthew 24:23-28 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25Behold, I have told you before.
26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
Matthew 24:23-28

Biblical Context

Jesus warns that powerful false Christs and signs will arise, and you must not follow external displays. The true coming of the Son of Man will be unmistakable, not found in deserts or secret chambers.

Neville's Inner Vision

Viewed through the lens of the I AM, these words reveal that the 'false Christs' are inner states masquerading as power—doubt, need for spectacular proof, the ego's craving for control. The 'great signs and wonders' are the vivid suggestions your mind throws up when you identify with a separate self. The elect are not a chosen group apart from you, but the awakened centers of consciousness that stay serene when appearances rage. The desert and the secret chambers symbolize mental habitats you retreat to when you doubt your unity with God; do not seek me out there, for I am within. The coming of the Son of Man is not a future event but a present awakening, the flash of recognition that sears across your entire field of awareness like lightning from east to west. Where the carcase is—the ego-bound life—there the eagles gather; they feast on old beliefs until you turn, by choice, toward the living I AM. When you accept the Christ within as your only reality, external 'signs' lose their power to deceive.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: In a quiet minute, assume I AM presence now. Say, 'I AM the Christ within me now,' feel that presence fill your chest, and imagine external signs dissolving into light.
