Inner Purity, Outer Cleansing

Matthew 23:26 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 23 in context

Scripture Focus

26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Matthew 23:26

Biblical Context

Jesus warns that inner purification must come before outward cleanliness. True holiness begins inside.

Neville's Inner Vision

Verse 23:26 invites us to diagnose a deeper disorder: not merely the mouth’s forms but the inner state that gives rise to them. The 'cup and platter' are the vessels of your doing, yet the true vessel is the inner I AM that dwells behind every thought and motive. If the inner life is stained with fear, resentment, or lack, the outward acts will only mirror the bias of mind. When you cleanse within, you don’t change appearances by force; you awaken to what you already are: the living consciousness that is the I AM. The wall between inner purity and outer appearance dissolves as you center in the assumption of perfect cleanliness, imagining that the inner thoughts, purposes, and memories are washed by light. Your attention, not your rituals, is the fountain. In this light, you understand that holiness is a state of awareness, not a display; once the inner cup shines, the outer cup and platter reflect that brightness, and you walk in a presence that requires no defense.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, breathe, and declare 'I am that I am.' Visualize the inner cup being washed by a gentle light until your motives and thoughts feel clear, then rest in the feeling that your outer life will reflect this inner purity.
