Biblical Context

Jesus asks whose image and inscription are on the coin; the answer is Caesar's, and his teaching is to render to Caesar the things of Caesar and to God the things of God.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this vignette, the image on the coin stands for the picture you hold of yourself in consciousness and the inscription for the rules you adopt as reality. Caesar’s claim is the field of outward obligation—the social, legal, and contractual world. God’s claim is your own I AM, the eternal awareness that animates every moment. Neville would say: do not chase signs in the outer world to prove your worth; instead, know that you, as the I AM, are the inventor of both image and inscription. When you acknowledge that the inner state creates the outer, you render unto Caesar by carrying out your duties with calm competence, and you render unto God by feeding your inner life with faith in your divine identity. The two are not enemies but two functions of one consciousness. Practice is to assume the truth of your God-self here and now, feeling it as real, and let the outer world bend around that inner king. Your present awareness, rightly held, is the coin that buys both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, assume 'I AM within,' and feel your inner sovereignty govern both realms. Practice by carrying out outer duties with ease while keeping your God-awareness at the center.
