Bethlehem Birth: The Inner King
Matthew 2:1 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Matthew 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse records Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem and wise men coming from the East to Jerusalem to honor the newborn king.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within Neville’s habit of turning scripture into states of consciousness, Bethlehem is the inner stable where the I AM births a new king—the Christ within you. Herod the king represents the old, fear-ridden agency of the dream that you are separate from God and must defend your throne. The wise men who come from the East to Jerusalem symbolize the awakened faculties of mind (desire, intellect, intuition) making their way toward the center of consciousness—the 'city' where decisions are affirmed. As you read, you are invited to see that the birth is not a historical event outside you, but the appearance of a new dominant state in your awareness. Jerusalem is your focal point of I AM-consciousness; Bethlehem is the current cradle of that consciousness; the journey of the wise men is the shift of attention from outward problems to the inner king. When you accept this inward birth, prophecy becomes present-tense promise: the kingdom is within, already realized in your feeling and belief.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you are the Bethlehem-born Christ in your own heart; revise any fear or doubt as Herod would, and allow the I AM to reign now. Sit in that awareness, feeling the inner Jerusalem welcoming the wise seekers of truth and realizing the kingdom within.
