The Inner Commandments

Matthew 19:16-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 19 in context

Scripture Focus

16And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Matthew 19:16-17

Biblical Context

A seeker asks what good thing he must do to gain eternal life; Jesus replies that only God is truly good and that life comes from keeping the commandments.

Neville's Inner Vision

Notice that the question assumes a future reward; yet the Master redirects to the inside. There is none good but God, meaning the 'good' is an inner state, not a moral checklist. The commandments are not external laws to obey, but inner alignments with the divine order. When you enter life, you enter a consciousness in which you no longer separate yourself from God; you keep the commandments by feeling the I AM as your reality. The man who seeks to do a thing points to lack; the one who knows he already has life acts from the truth that life is now. Assume you already possess eternal life by dwelling in the I AM; revise any sense of separation; and feel the conviction that you are keeping the inner commandments as an expression of your true identity. Your obedience becomes natural, and eternal life becomes a present state you embody, here and now.

Practice This Now

Imaginative_act: Sit quietly and declare, I am the life of God now; visualize yourself living in inner order, keeping the commandments, and feeling eternal life as your present reality.
