Matthew 15:3-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus exposes the scribes who let tradition override God's command to honor father and mother. He shows that external rules cannot override inner obedience.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within this passage, the old tradition is shown to transgress the true command of God by substituting a human custom for divine law. The commandment to honor father and mother stands as an inner principle, not a ritual to be traded for convenience or profit. When you say, 'It is a gift by me,' you are confessing that a private agreement in your mind overrides the life-giving law within you. The 'I' that you are—the I AM, the awareness through which all things unfold—must decide which authority you accept. In Neville's view, the commandment of God is not a rule without life; it is your present state of obedience, your willingness to live in harmony with the divine will now. Therefore, tradition ceases to control you the moment you re-anchor yourself in that inner law. Then the outward commandment is fulfilled not by external conformity but by the realized consciousness that your true power rests in God within. You do not sever responsibility; you harmonize it with your inner witness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine a scene where your inner Father and Mother affirm the one command of God within you; see yourself replying, 'I honor this inner command, not the tradition.' Feel the freedom of the I AM ordering your life now.
