Inner Source of Purity

Matthew 15:11 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 15 in context

Scripture Focus

11Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Matthew 15:11

Biblical Context

Matthew 15:11 teaches that defilement comes from the inner state expressed through speech, not what one eats. What you outwardly say reveals your inner alignment with purity or defilement.

Neville's Inner Vision

Jesus’ statement redirects us from external rituals to the inner life of consciousness. The ‘mouth’ that defiles is the mouth of your awareness, the stream of thoughts and assumptions you have accepted as true. Defilement arises when your inner speech mirrors fear, division, or judgment, for that is what you have identified as real. If you renew your sense of I AM—the single, universal consciousness that you are—your words will align with wholeness, unity, and holiness. Imagine that you are always speaking from the state of your own divine awareness, and your outward life follows suit. The diet of the body matters little beside the nourishment of your inner convictions. By changing the conditions of your mind—your assumptions about life, right, and others—you alter the output of your mouth. In this light, purity is not a rule to obey but an inner condition to inhabit, felt, rehearsed, and spoken from the acknowledged I AM.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly and assume the inner state of pure speech now; revise one upcoming sentence in your mind to reflect 'I am the I AM' and feel its life-giving tone. Do this for a minute each time you speak.
