Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Peter steps out toward Jesus, but fear causes him to sink; Jesus rescues him and reveals that faith is a state of consciousness.
Neville's Inner Vision
Peter’s step from the boat is the moment your I AM dares to leave the safe self behind. The wind and waves are not out there, but images born in the mind—assumptions of limitation that arise when you forget who you are. When Peter fixed his attention on the storm, he forgot the presence that calls him forward. Jesus’ cry, “Come,” is not an invitation to travel across seas but to assume the state of being you desire. The sinking is the mind clinging to separation from the I AM; the saving hand is your own higher consciousness, reaching to recall you to your true unity. The rebuke is not judgment but a gentle correction: return your focus to the certainty of your oneness with God within. If you persist as the awareness that walks upon the inner sea, the wind loses its power, and you discover that you are the one who makes the sign of walking on water possible. Your real rescue is the restoration of awareness, not rescue from without.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine stepping from the 'ship' of old self onto the water of your desire, feeling the support of the I AM beneath you; when doubt arises, revise the scene by silently affirming, 'I am the consciousness that walks on water, here and now.'
