Biblical Context
Jesus redefines family as those who do the will of the Father; outward relations fade in favor of an inner kinship formed by obedience and shared purpose.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider the scene as a parable of your own consciousness. The crowd outside represents habitual identities; the real inquiry happens within. When Jesus says, Behold my mother and my brethren, he points to the inner circle formed by doing the Father's will in heaven—the will that you are aware of now as the I AM. The Father is not distant but the living impulse in your mind. Whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. This is a redefinition of kinship: your true family is the state of consciousness that lives in harmony with the divine will. By acting in accord with that will, you establish bonds that surpass blood and circumstance. The outside world may pull you toward separation; the inner household remains your true home. Your task is to cultivate this inner kinship by imagining and living from the I AM, until the feeling of belonging to this family is your natural state.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the feeling of belonging to the inner family by mentally affirming, I am doing the will of the Father within me; dwell in that state and let it color your daily acts.
