Biblical Context
Jesus notes that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, and counters the accusation by pointing to internal division. He suggests that if Satan were casting out Satan, his own realm would collapse; thus the claim is unfounded, and the power used against devils must be understood as a matter of inner state, not external warfare.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville, the 'kingdom' is the one and only state of consciousness you inhabit. The splitting of a kingdom mirrors the mind’s belief in opposing powers within—one part resisting another, one part fearing the other. Jesus exposes that inner warfare by showing the absurdity of a divided realm, for the real power lies in a unified I AM. Beelzebub and devil-casting are not external forces to be battled but misperceptions arising from a mind imagining separation. The judge is the inner voice that declares power over others while denying it within. When you see temptation and conflict as inner motions, you recognize that your true kingdom remains intact only when you refuse to entertain multiplicity. The test is not to conquer others, but to collapse the illusion of division by consciously returning to the single, undivided awareness that you are the I AM, here and now.
Practice This Now
Practice: Assume the entire kingdom of your mind is already united—‘I am the I AM.’ Revise the sense of inner division by quietly affirming, 'There is only one mind, one kingdom, and I am it,' then feel the unity as you breathe.
