Scripture Focus

40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Matthew 10:40-42

Biblical Context

Receiving the disciples or prophets is presented as receiving Jesus, and receiving Jesus means receiving the one who sent him. The verse also promises that generous acts, even a cup of cold water to a 'little one,' will not go unrewarded.

Neville's Inner Vision

To receive you is to recognize the state you are already in. The text says, to receive a prophet is to receive the prophet within, and to receive the righteous man is to acknowledge the righteousness resident in your own mind. In the language of consciousness, persons are occasions, not strangers; events are movements of your inner weather. When you affirm a disciple, you align with the I AM that sent all power through you; when you honor a righteous one in the name of righteousness, you confirm the constancy of your inner faith. The cup of cold water offered to one of these little ones is a symbol of the generous impulse that issues from your present state; such small acts reveal the vastness of your inner treasury. Rewards here are not trophies handed by a distant power, but the immediate sense that your inner awareness is real, that God - the I AM - is awake in you, and the world responds accordingly. Your practice, then, is simple: dwell in the feeling that you are already received, and watch as outer scenes rise to match that inner acceptance.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the state, 'I am received by life as I am.' Feel the warmth of that reception and picture a simple act of kindness flowing from you; revise doubt with, 'From this moment I awaken to my reward.'
