Emmanuel: God With Us Within

Matthew 1:22-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 1 in context

Scripture Focus

22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Matthew 1:22-23

Biblical Context

The passage shows that what happened fulfilled the Lord's prophecy about Emmanuel. Emmanuel means God with us—present in our lives now.

Neville's Inner Vision

All the words of the prophet point not to the inner state that is being fulfilled now. The virgin birth in the story becomes a metaphor for the birth of a new idea, a fresh realization, within the thinking mind—the moment when you acknowledge that the I AM, awareness itself, is present where you are. Emmanuel, being interpreted as God with us, is the recognition that the divine presence does not dwell apart from you but as you, here and now. Therefore, the fulfillment spoken of is your inner conviction that life, love, and power are not elsewhere but within your consciousness, available to be consciously realized. When you assume this presence, you revise your sense of separation, and the world begins to reflect the truth you hold: God with us. Practice this as a constant posture of awareness, and you will notice a birth of harmony, insight, and action that speaks from the mouth of the I AM.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit, close your eyes, and repeat 'I am God with us' until the feeling lands as real; then live from that consciousness in the next 24 hours, observing what changes.
