Biblical Context
Mark 9:43–44 presents a stark metaphor: remove what offends your life rather than tolerate it. The removal is inward, not physical, and it leads you toward life.
Neville's Inner Vision
Your hand in the story is a symbol of any habit, desire, or belief that offends your true life. The command to cut it off is not a literal injunction to maim the body, but a decisive revision of your inner state: you affirm that this impulse no longer rules your consciousness. When you grasp that life is the expression of your I AM, the fire that never quenches becomes a beacon showing you are waking from a mistaken assumption. The worm that dieth not is the persistence of a familiar thought pattern; starve it by not feeding it with attention, and feed the I AM that you are instead. If you assume the end you desire as already yours, you will feel it real; the old self-image dissolves and a life untainted by the former struggle arises. The two hands symbolize rival identities; choose life by remaining steadfast in your inner conviction. Salvation and holiness arise as you separate from the old narrative and unite with the truth you now know. Enter into life by living from the I AM, and let your imagination freely reflect that reality.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the end-state: I AM Life now. See the impulse cut away and feel-it-real the new, liberated life as already present.
