Mark 8:34-38 Inner Cross
Mark 8:34-38 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Mark 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus invites the crowd to join him by denying themselves, taking up their cross, and following. Clinging to ego or outward gain leads to loss of life; surrendering to the soul reveals true life.
Neville's Inner Vision
To you I say: the crowd you call 'self' is the sum of your beliefs about who you are. Mark's words are not a demand of outward effort but a turning of attention inward. When you hear deny yourself, you do not fight the ego by willpower alone, but by recognizing that the self you defend is not the I AM but a mutable image in consciousness. The cross is the inner movement by which you release attachments to fame, fear, or possession. Following me is the insistence that your awareness, the I AM that you are, chooses the path that aligns with the gospel of your true being. Lose the life you have identified with, and you discover the life that belongs to your soul, for the world cannot give lasting nourishment to the soul. When you refuse to be ashamed of the words you live by, you awaken the Son of Man within you, shining with the glory of the Father.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you are already the person who has denied the old self and is following the Christ within. Feel the I AM as the living presence of soul-truth and rest in the sense that life is found by letting go of worldly chase.
