Within the Heart: Defilement Unveiled
Mark 7:20-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Mark 7 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus teaches that what defiles a person comes from within the heart; evil thoughts and acts arise from inner dispositions rather than external rituals.
Neville's Inner Vision
God is awareness, not a distant judge. The passage teaches that defilement is born from the inner state, the heart of your consciousness. Evil thoughts, theft, pride, deceit—all are not imposed from without but arise where you have believed in separation or lack. The 'inner' is the fountainhead; what you accept as true about yourself becomes your experience. Therefore the so-called external defilement is a reflection of your mental weather. If you identify with a mind stirred by fear, lust, or vanity, you sustain a soil in which these things can grow. Yet the I AM—the eternal you—lies beyond this noise, ready to revise it. By turning your attention inward and assuming a different state, you can alter the imagery that governs your life. Imagine yourself as already pure, whole, and awake; feel the confidence and discernment that come from knowing you are the observer and the governor of your world. In this interior shift, the old pictures fade and new life appears, demonstrating that evil things come not from without but from within, and you have the power to transform them.
Practice This Now
Practice: sit quietly, declare 'I am the I AM, pure and whole,' and imagine a scene where you respond from that state. Feel the interior shift until the reverence for life fills you.
