Inner Storm, Inner Peace
Mark 4:37-40 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Mark 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Mark 4:37-40 presents a fierce storm on the sea; Jesus calms it with a command of peace and questions the disciples' fear and lack of faith.
Neville's Inner Vision
These words do not describe weather alone; they reveal your inner weather. The ship stands for your consciousness; the storm for restless thoughts and fear-born pictures that beat against the hull of your awareness. Jesus, asleep in the hinder part of the ship, is the quiet I AM within you, undisturbed by your mind's clamor. When you awaken that I AM, you awaken to the truth that the storm is only a belief in motion. His rebuke, 'Peace, be still,' is the inner decree you speak to yourself: you command attention away from fear and back to the Presence. As you assume that presence, the wind ceases and there is a great calm inside, not by changing the outer world but by changing your inner state. The question 'Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?' becomes your invitation: faith is not a future commodity but a present alignment with God within. When you rest in the I AM, the inner sea settles and your life mirrors that peace.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes during fear and picture the hindermost part of your ship. Awaken the I AM there and repeat 'Peace, be still' until you feel the calm spreading through your body.
