Storms and Inner Rest: Mark 4:37-38

Mark 4:37-38 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Mark 4 in context

Scripture Focus

37And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
Mark 4:37-38

Biblical Context

In Mark 4:37–38, a violent storm fills the boat while Jesus sleeps; the disciples fear the ship will sink, revealing the contrast between outer fear and inner stillness.

Neville's Inner Vision

That voyage shows a sacred law of consciousness: the storm on the surface of life is a projection of inner disturbance, and the Christ within is always at rest. The hindermost part of the ship—the unconscious—holds the quiet I AM, not swayed by wind or waves. When you identify with the waves, you cry out in fear, as the disciples did, asking whether the power of God cares for you. But Jesus asleep there is your own true state awaiting recognition—the awareness that you are never threatened by circumstance because you are the very I AM that remains serene. The moment you refuse the illusion of separation and choose to acknowledge the Presence, the imagined storm loses its grip. Faith becomes trust in what you cannot see with the senses, and peace floods your inner ship. You awaken to the fact that God is not distant but present as your own consciousness. With this inward alignment, the weather changes, the mind rests, and a future of calm hope reveals itself as the natural reflection of the present stillness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and picture the hindermost part of your mind as a calm ship; rest in the I AM there. Now assume the presence, feel the peace as real, and silently declare, 'I am one with God; the storm is over.'
