Bridegroom Within Now

Mark 2:18-20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Mark 2 in context

Scripture Focus

18And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
Mark 2:18-20

Biblical Context

John and Pharisee's demand asks why Jesus' followers fast. Jesus replies that with the bridegroom present, fasting is not yet appropriate, for your present consciousness is the source of all experience.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, the bridegroom is the I AM within you, not a distant external figure. The question about fasting points to form rather than the living truth. When you acknowledge the bridegroom is with you now, you enter the unfasting of lack because the awareness I AM is the feast. Fasting becomes a hunger for God only when you forget this oneness; the days the bridegroom is taken away mirror moments of separation, when you try to earn presence by rule. But you can reverse it in your imagination: assume the state of union and dwell there until it feels real. Let your thoughts, feelings, and imagery be saturated with the I AM, letting the sense of fullness push out deprivation. Persist in this inner wedding, and the outer life will harmonize to your inner state, making the discipline fall away into effortless living.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly. Declare 'The bridegroom is with me now' and feel the I AM as inner fullness.
