Biblical Context
Soldiers dress Jesus in purple and a crown of thorns, mock him, and lead him away. The outer scene mirrors inner states of self-image and the mind's tendency to clothe and discard its imagined identity.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture the Praetorium as the inner chamber of your mind, where beliefs are weighed and choices are made. The purple robe, the crown of thorns, and the mock salutes are not history; they are inner states you wear and inhabit as you identify with a self-image. The cry 'Hail, King of the Jews!' is your own acknowledgment—sometimes veiled, sometimes bold—that you are king not of others’ opinions but of your own consciousness. The reed’s blow and the spittle are the petty thoughts that try to wound your sense of power. When the crowd bows, what bows is your old concept of yourself, not a man on a cross. After the ritual, the removal of the purple and the return to ordinary clothes signals the shedding of the old identity to reveal the solitary inner kingship. Remember: imagination creates reality; through inner conviction you enact the kingship here and now. By aligning your feeling with the truth of I AM, you awaken the hidden ruler within.
Practice This Now
Assume the state of your inner king now: close your eyes, imagine a crown of light upon your head, and feel the I AM presiding over every thought. Stay with that feeling and revise any self-image that contradicts your kingship, letting it be real in your present experience.
