Biblical Context
The Sadducees present a hypothetical, seven-brother marriage to challenge Jesus on resurrection and marriage; they assume earthly law will govern life after death. Their puzzle reveals a mind fixated on how life should repeat itself after death.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the Sadducees’ riddle as a symbol of a mind clinging to old rules. In the I AM that you are, boundaries of spouse and marriage are only the dream of a waking state. The seven brothers are seven old vestibules of a thought that life must replay the same contract in the next room. But resurrection is inner life: when you turn your attention to the awareness that perceives the drama, the scene dissolves into presence. You are not summoned to pick a winner among past partners; you are drawn into a moment where form yields to formlessness, where you are 'as the angels in heaven'—not bound by earthly marriage. The new life is the realization that your identity is the I AM, timeless and unbound by former relationships, which means every longing is satisfied by the one Presence within you.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and revise one current relationship scenario by affirming, 'In the resurrection I am the I AM—whole, unbound by past roles.' Then, feel the reality of this new state.
