Inner Authority Over Unclean Spirits

Mark 1:23-28 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

23And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
24Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
27And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
28And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

Biblical Context

In Mark 1:23-28, a man in the synagogue is afflicted by an unclean spirit; Jesus commands the spirit to be silent and come out, and the crowd witnesses a display of authority.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this scene, the unclean spirit is a stubborn belief within your own consciousness that declares itself in opposition to your true nature. Jesus represents the I AM—the Holy One within you—speaking with sovereign authority: Hold thy peace, and come out of him. When you recognize the belief as a mere thought-form and address it from the seat of awareness, it tears and leaves. The crowd’s astonishment mirrors the moment you realize that fear and limitation are not real powers, but motions within your mind that obey your inner command. The gathering region of Galilee is your field of thoughts; a new doctrine of power emerges as you understand you are the author of your experiences. Deliverance is not outside you but the reshaping of consciousness by the authority of awareness. With consistent assumption, it becomes the felt reality—the shift from reaction to intentional being, and your life begins to radiate with a new, liberated presence.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and identify a persistent negative belief. In your imagination, say to it: Be quiet; come out of me now. Then rest in the quiet that follows and notice a freer sense of presence.
