Deliverance in Mark 1:23-25

Mark 1:23-25 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Mark 1 in context

Scripture Focus

23And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
24Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
Mark 1:23-25

Biblical Context

In Mark 1:23-25, a man with an unclean spirit disrupts a synagogue gathering; Jesus rebukes the spirit and commands it to come out.

Neville's Inner Vision

Note that the scene is not a literal exorcism but a depiction of inner states. The 'unclean spirit' represents a false sense of separation clinging to awareness. Jesus—the Holy One of God within you—speaks as the I AM, the unassailable center of consciousness. When He bids the spirit be quiet, He teaches you to silence fear and revulsion inside your mind; the command to 'hold thy peace' invites you to withdraw attention from the troubling thought. 'Come out of him' signals the release of this false state and the restoration of wholeness. In Neville terms, your inner state creates your outward experience: assume the truth of your divine nature, and the 'unclean' impression loses its power. The scene is a practical demonstration that liberation comes through a decisive inner acknowledgment of who you are, here and now, as the Holy One within.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume the I AM now as your true identity; when fear arises, mentally say, 'Hold thy peace,' and breathe until the disruptive thought dissolves into inner calm.
