The Spirit Upon Me Within
Luke 4:18-21 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Luke 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus declares the Spirit is upon him to proclaim good news, heal the brokenhearted, liberate the captives, give sight, and set at liberty the bruised; then proclaims that this scripture is fulfilled in that moment.
Neville's Inner Vision
Inside Luke 4:18-21, the Spirit is not a distant force but your own I AM awareness stepping forward as the teacher. The 'poor' are those who feel lack of supply; the 'bruised' are worn-out beliefs; the 'captive' is the mind held by old stories. When you imagine this moment as your present reality, you align with the very act of anointing—the recognition that you are the audacious speaker of your own gospel. The Lord’s year, the acceptable year, is a symbolic return to a state of wholeness that you can invoke now by assumption. As you dwell in this consciousness, the external world—synagogue, eyes fixed on him—becomes a mirror of your inner attention. The scripture is fulfilled not in time, but in your experiencing that you are already the one spoken of, the one who brings light to darkness, liberty to bondage, and sight to blindness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, breathe into the chest, and assume, 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; I am anointed now to preach good news to the poor.' Feel the release and observe how your inner world responds as if this scripture is fulfilled today.
