Luke 14:25-33 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

25And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Biblical Context

Jesus declares that following him requires renouncing attachments and bearing a cross. He warns to count the cost before committing, lest one begin with the crowd and be mocked for not finishing.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider the great multitude as the crowd of thoughts and desires that surround your consciousness. When Jesus says hate, he means reordering your loves to the one Reality—the I AM within. To bear the cross is not misery but the conscious surrender of an old selfhood that claims you apart from God. The tower and the king teach you to live from the end-state now: decide you finish, and align every thought, feeling, and action with that decision. If you cling to comfort or status, your intention collapses and the very doubts you harbor will mock your attempt. Forsaking all that you have means relinquishing identification with possessions and appearances, for your true asset is an unwavering awareness. The journey of discipleship is the invitation to consent to the I AM as ruler of your inner world, letting external change follow from your inward state rather than forcing outcomes. When you inhabit this inner alignment, your outer world bends to the truth you already are.

Practice This Now

Assume you have already finished the tower you began—feel the completion now and let the sense of certainty rise as your present reality. If fear or doubt arises, revise it by affirming, I AM, and hold that end-state until it feels natural.
