Loosed On The Sabbath

Luke 13:10-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Luke 13 in context

Scripture Focus

10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
Luke 13:10-17

Biblical Context

A woman bowed by infirmity is healed in the synagogue on the Sabbath. Jesus declares her loosed, she stands upright, and the people rejoice while the ruler protests.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, this scene is not about a distant miracle, but about your inner state. The bowed woman represents a long-held belief that you cannot rise—an 'spirit of infirmity' born of fear and limitation. The Sabbath moment is the inner resting where Kingdom truth can enter without the pressure of the outer world. When Jesus sees her and says, 'Thou art loosed,' he is showing you the great truth that you are already free in your essential I AM. The laying on of hands is the agent of transformation—the invitation of a higher idea that displaces the old picture. Your inner spine straightens when you accept that you are a daughter (or son) of Abraham in God, not bound by Satan’s stories but by your own identification with divine consciousness. The ruler’s indignation is the voice of the small mind that resists new birth; yet the people’s rejoicing is the inner agreement that the truth has taken possession of your heart. Healing therefore begins within as a shift of state, and the body follows as a natural sign.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly and assume you are already loosed from every infirmity. Feel your spine lengthen as you declare the I AM's freedom and stand upright in your true nature.
