Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus visits a house; Mary sits at his feet listening to his words while Martha hurries with serving. Martha asks Jesus to tell Mary to help, highlighting the tension between busyness and attentive presence.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider Luke 10:38-40 as a portrait of inner states. The village and Martha’s house are inner dispositions; Martha’s cumbered about much serving is the mind clinging to outward effort, trying to secure reality through acts. Mary, at Jesus feet, embodies the listening consciousness that pays heed to the Word within—the living I AM that is always present and speaking truth into the mind. Jesus invites Mary to choose a higher state; not to condemn service, but to awaken to the source of true action. When you assume the Mary posture in imagination, you revise the scene so the inner Word governs the outer without struggle. The conflict dissolves as you acknowledge one Presence and one Power, and trust that this Presence guides every moment. Your true home is the awareness of God within; faith is the trust that this Presence leads you beyond mere duty into discernment, peace, and faithful action.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Assume the Mary state for 5 minutes today—sit quietly as if at Jesus feet, repeat inwardly 'I am the presence that hears now,' and notice how the rush dissolves into listening.
