The Inner Magnificat
Luke 1:46-55 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Luke 1 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Mary declares that her soul magnifies the Lord and rejoices in God her Savior. She speaks of God’s mercy toward the humble and His justice toward the proud, and of blessing given to the hungry while the rich are sent away.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Mary’s words I address your inner ear: the Magnificat is not a history lesson but a manual for the inner state you call I AM that experiences God as awareness. When you say, 'my soul magnifies the Lord,' you are naming a shift: your consciousness expands to recognize the Lord within as the source and substance of all you know. The 'low estate' of the handmaiden is the humble posture of surrendered belief, not a condition; in this posture, generation after generation can call you blessed because the state itself has been exalted. The 'mighty' done to me great things is the power of awareness acting upon form; holiness is the recognition of the sacredness of the I AM present in every moment. The mercy on those who fear Him is the inner response that sustains your life; the scattering of the proud in the imagination of their hearts is the dissolving of false self-images by a true revelation. The hungry are filled and the rich sent empty away as an inner economy shifts from lack to sufficiency, as you cling to this covenant of mercy and remembrance. This is your Israel, your heart tuned to mercy, remembering forever.
