Biblical Context
Luke 1:17 describes one who goes before with Elijah’s spirit to turn the hearts of fathers to children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, preparing a people for the Lord.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the verse as a manual for inner alchemy. The one who goes before is the inner energy of your I AM, moving in the spirit and power you carry as consciousness. To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children is to dissolve the old divides inside you—the strong self and the vulnerable self, the sober mind and the playful heart—so that a single, harmonious intention can arise. To the disobedient become the wisdom of the just means inviting every stubborn impulse to submit to the order your inner man already knows, aligning action with a truth you now accept as real. The outcome—‘a people prepared for the Lord’—is not a future event but a present state of readiness your imagination can manufacture. Prepare by dwelling in the assumption that the Lord is already near, that your awareness is complete, and that all discord resolves into unity. When you give your attention to this inner shift, you become the environment in which the coming of the Lord is naturally expressed.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled—your heart reconciled and the inner divisions dissolved. Rest in that state for several minutes, letting the imagined readiness flood your consciousness.
