Biblical Context
Leviticus 24:10-12 tells of a man, the son of an Israelite woman and an Egyptian father, who quarrels in the camp and blasphemes the name of the Lord. He is set apart in ward to reveal the mind of the Lord.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the stillness of my own awareness, Leviticus 24:10-12 becomes a mirror for inner states. The mixed heritage figure symbolizes the clash within consciousness between who I think I am and the higher I AM becoming. The quarrel in the camp is the battleground of thoughts; the blasphemy spoken is the harsh inner speech I sometimes cast upon the divine within me. When the people bring him to Moses and keep him in ward, “that the mind of the LORD might be shown them,” I hear the inward decree: the inner governor reveals what presently governs my consciousness. The “mind of the LORD” is not a distant judgment but the living I AM, made evident by attention and belief. By holding the scene in ward, I am invited to observe my inner state until holiness is established, until I no longer curse the sacred within, but acknowledge it as the law of my own awareness. The outer scene becomes a sign of my inner alignment, a call to refine my thoughts until purity prevails in the mind I call mine.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: In this moment, assume the consciousness you call ‘I’ is the Lord of your camp. Revise any harsh inner speech by declaring, 'I am the Lord; this thought is mine to command,' and feel the authority expanding your awareness.
