Biblical Context
Plain summary: The text sets the high priest apart, requiring purity, guarded boundaries, and sanctity of the sanctuary, along with a pure marriage. It emphasizes loyalty to the covenant and the presence of God as the source of his sanctification.
Neville's Inner Vision
To you, the reader, this Levitical instruction becomes a map of inner discipline. The high priest is not a person apart in space but a symbol of your own waking state. The anointing oil upon his head is the glow of awareness poured upon the mind, a calling to remember who you are as I AM. The command not to uncover his head or rend his garments is the discipline of maintaining a consistent sense of self, not letting fear or stale belief tear at the fabric of your consciousness. He may not enter the dead body—mental associations with past losses—nor defile the sanctuary; thus you guard the sacred space of your inner temple, the sanctuary of God within. The requirement to take a virgin wife—choose a pure, new idea in harmony with your true self—and to avoid the widow, divorced, profane, or harlot thought forms, teaches you to keep your inner lineage clean. For I the LORD do sanctify him: your consciousness is constantly being made holy by your assumed awareness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: Assume you are the high priest now; feel the anointing oil upon your head and imagine sacred garments of awareness. Then revise any defiling thought by choosing a virgin idea aligned with your true self and feel it real in mind.
