Biblical Context
Moses commands two priests to remove their brethren from before the sanctuary, carrying them out of the camp, indicating the removal of ritual defilement and the boundary of holiness. It is a picture of purification of the inner state.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this scene, the physical action is a symbol for an inner movement of the mind. The 'dead' being carried away are the fixed thoughts, memories, and identifications that cling to you and pollute the sanctuary of awareness. The young men Mishael and Elzaphan stand for the vigilant I AM within you, the aspect that will not permit the old self to remain in the temple of consciousness. To carry out these brethren signifies a deliberate separation: you step outside the camp of unclean thinking and return to the inner sanctuary unburdened by fear, guilt, or resentment. The coats they bear reveal the outer coverings of your self-image—the roles and masks worn in life—and removing them declares that outer appearances do not define reality. When Moses says to do as he had said, it is your inner command aligning with immutable truth: the temple of consciousness must be kept holy by voluntary, inner decisions. The result is freedom: awareness becomes sanctified not by ritual, but by the intentional revision of what you allow in your mind.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: Close your eyes and revise a stubborn unclean thought as already carried out of your inner sanctuary. Then affirm, 'I am holy in God; I am free,' and feel a lightness expanding through your chest.
