Inner Desolation, Inner Dawn
Lamentations 2:20-22 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Lamentations 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage laments widespread devastation and calls on the LORD to consider what has been done, describing famine, slaughter, and unpitied suffering in a symbolic inner landscape.
Neville's Inner Vision
Behold the lament as a map of inner states. The LORD in this reading is the I AM you are, the steadfast awareness that watches every thought. The famine, the slain priests, the terrified streets—these are not distant places but images arising in consciousness when you believe you are separated from your own divine nature. Anger and judgment are but mental motifs you have rehearsed, and the day of the LORD’s anger is the moment you identify with a story rather than with the eternal witness. Yet nothing in you is truly slain; the sanctuary of God resides in you and cannot be burned or destroyed. When you feel the grip of terror, do not plead for mercy from outside; instead, revise the scene by affirming, I AM the ruler of this dream, and I choose peace, order, and love. Swaddling and upbringing become memories passing through awareness, not bindings. In this inward day, the terrors surround you no longer; they are dissolved by the light of consciousness, and none remain to withstand the presence you truly are.
Practice This Now
Practice: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and declare, 'I AM the observer of all scenes.' Then revise the vision of devastation into a sanctuary of peace, and feel the awareness sustain it as real.
