From Sorrow to Inner Power

Lamentations 1:12-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

12Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
13From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.
14The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the LORD hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.
15The LORD hath trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the LORD hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.
16For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.
17Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them.
Lamentations 1:12-17

Biblical Context

The lament portrays a city in deep distress under divine anger, with fire in the bones, a binding yoke, and no comfort, leaving Zion desolate and Jerusalem exposed.

Neville's Inner Vision

All this lamentation is not about a city out there but a state of consciousness within you. I am the I AM, the aware presence that dreams the world into being, and the 'fierce anger' or 'fire in the bones' are the vivid sensations that attend a belief I have accepted as real. The net at my feet, the turning back, the desolation—these are the effects of a thought I have allowed to rule me. When I identify with separation, I yield to a story in which I am crushed by powers outside my control. But the comforter is never truly distant; it is the quiet, holding awareness I can return to in imagination. The yoke and the oppression are not imposed from above, but are the internal conditions of a mind convinced of limitation. Zion, the inner ideal, spreads its hands and invites me to awaken to the truth that I am the reality behind the dream. By choosing a new state of consciousness, I revise the scene and let peace, safety, and restoration unfold in my life.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and affirm, 'I am the I AM'; I now assume the feeling of being comforted and free, and dwell in Zion restored until it feels real.
