Judges 6:17-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Judges 6 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Gideon asks for a sign to prove God’s talk, prepares a sacrifice, the angel of the LORD consumes it with fire, Gideon realizes the divine messenger, and the LORD speaks peace, assuring him he will not die.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within the Judges narrative, the sign Gideon asks for is not an external spectacle but the inner confirmation of grace already given by the I AM. The 'angel of the LORD' represents a state of awareness visiting Gideon’s mind. When Gideon insists on seeing a sign, he is only proving the readiness of his consciousness to entertain a new possibility. The sacrifice and the fire that consumes it symbolize the old, unattended pictures being consumed by the vibrational flame of faith when the self consents to its own divinity. The moment Gideon perceives that he has beheld an angel of the LORD, he falls into fear, and the response is a pronouncement of peace: 'Fear not: thou shalt not die.' This is the spiritual law: once you align with the I AM, you have entered the realm where threat dissolves and life becomes a safe sanctuary. The presence of grace and favor is not granted from without; it is the I AM acknowledging itself as you, and every outward sign (the fire, the rock) is an outward image of your inner state becoming visible. Practice: assume you are already in communion with your inner angel, and let the sign of grace appear in your life as peace, assurance, and a felt reality.
Practice This Now
Assume you are already in grace; revise any doubt with, 'I have found grace in thy sight.' Then sit in quiet and feel the presence as a warm, unshakable peace rising within.
