Driving Out Inner Idols

Judges 2:3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Judges 2 in context

Scripture Focus

3Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
Judges 2:3

Biblical Context

The verse warns that refusing to drive out external or inner adversaries will leave them as thorny irritants and their gods will trap you. It calls for vigilance, obedience, and a willingness to let go of counterfeit powers.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the inner landscape of the I AM, the word 'them' refers to thoughts, desires, and idols that you tolerate as if they were real rulers. When you declare, 'I will not drive them out,' you are identifying with the lesser self, the host of fears and attachments that maintain a false sense of power. The thorns are not foreign enemies but the persistent vibrations of conditioned thinking, the ‘gods’ you have enthroned in your imagination. They become a snare because you grant them reality by dwelling in fear or pride. The liberating truth is that you are the sovereign consciousness: imagination creates reality, and awareness is the true conqueror. To live free, you must withdraw belief from these idols and reoccupy the inner land with the I AM as ruler. When you do, the thorny irritations fade, and the snares collapse as you recognize you are never bound by them, but victor over them, here and now.

Practice This Now

Assume the state, 'I AM the Lord of this inner land, driving out every idol and dissolving every snare.' Rest in that feeling until it becomes your living sense, then repeat daily.
