Biblical Context
Manoah asks for the angel's name so they may honor him; the angel says the name is secret, and Manoah and his wife respond with sacrifice and awe.
Neville's Inner Vision
Judges 13:17-19 speaks of a hidden name that cannot be named openly, for it is secret. In the inner life, your true name is the I AM you are aware of, the ever-present witness to all movement. The angel of the LORD is not a distant messenger but the inner state that steps forth when you turn your attention to the source of your life. Manoah asks for a name so that he may honor what he does not yet fully know; the response is a gentle reminder to rest in the mystery: the secret is kept by the One who knows you from the inside. When Manoah offers a sacrifice on the rock and the presence 'wonderously' appears, notice that the outward sign mirrors your inner alignment: you sacrifice your old story and, in the stillness of attention, the unseen becomes visible. Your senses respond not to a person but to the inner conviction that you are seen by the I AM; the miracle is not outside of you but a shift in your state of consciousness. The moment you stop chasing a name and rest in the secret awareness, the sacred presence is made manifest in your life.
Practice This Now
Imaginative practice: Sit in quiet and declare, 'I AM,' accepting that this is your true Name. Then, as if before the rock of sacrifice, feel your inner prayer rise and witness the Presence respond in your life.
